Crime: Kano to empower repentant youth

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir-Yusuf, has restated the commitment of his administration to empower repentant youth for them to be re-integrated into society and become self-reliant.

The Governor made this known at the Sani Abacha Stadium during a hangout event with 222 repentant thugs organised by Kano State Police Command in collaboration with Aminu Garba Magashi (AMG) Foundation.

In a statement yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature, the Governor said plans have been made for the empowerment of the repentant youths through skills acquisition and education, for those willing to further their education.

They will enjoy scholarships and sponsorship from the government and those who want to acquire skills or go to legitimate businesses will receive the full support of the State government.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf expressed happiness that what happened was a clear testimony that Kano has regained her lost glory as a haven for human development and it also showcased the effort of the state government to ensure the security of lives and property.

He commended the efforts of the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gumel, for organising the training of the repentant youths out of which 50 are constabulary volunteers who were selected from the crime-prone local governments of Fagge, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Ungogo, and Kano Municipal.

The Governor added that apart from the provision of the needed logistics, a security Communication centre was re-established that was established during the administration of His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso but was abandoned and vandalised by the immediate-past administration.
