…says PDP stalwart’s passing is the fall of one of biggest trees in Edo Politics
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the death of the Peoples Democratic Party National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, as both a personal and political loss.
Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026, with Wike saying the late PDP chieftain’s death had deprived him of a close friend and committed political ally.
Wike, in a condolence message issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described Orbih as “a friend indeed” and one of the prominent political figures in Edo State.
The FCT minister said the deceased occupied a special place in his personal and political life, adding that his friendship and political association with Orbih would be greatly missed.
“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in friendship and political association.
“But we can’t question God. He gives, and He takes,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor also described Orbih’s death as “the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” stressing the significance of his contribution to politics and the people he interacted with during his lifetime.
He said Orbih would be sorely missed by his friends, political associates and others whose lives he touched.
Wike, while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, described Orbih as “a good friend, a great politician and a man of faith in the Almighty God.”
He said, “On behalf of myself, my family and political associates, I commiserate with the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih on the demise of Chief Dan Orbih, a good friend, a great politician and a man of faith in the Almighty God. May his soul rest in peace.”
Orbih was a prominent PDP figure in the South-South and had remained an influential voice within the party over the years. His political relationship with Wike was also well established, with both figures belonging to the same political camp within the PDP.
His death comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the PDP and other opposition parties facing renewed efforts to reposition their structures and strengthen their political influence.
The late politician is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Miss Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; as well as his brothers, sisters and other members of his extended family.
