Davido’s producer, Shizzi, speaks about challenges of Afrobeats
Nigerian record producer and disc jockey, Oluwaseyi Akerele aka Shizzi, has spoken about the challenges facing Afrobeats in Nigeria.
According to Shizzi, who recorded several songs with award-winning singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, stated that Afrobeats has been going through a weird phase.
The music producer said, “Afrobeats has been going through a weird phase in the past 2 years.”
Furthermore, the entertainer stated that only a few of the mostly churned-out songs resonate with the themes and ideas of Afrobeats.
“So many songs come out every day, but only a few truly resonate,” he added.
Shizzi joins a long list of Nigerian music aficionados and connoisseurs who are of the opinion that most of the newly released Afrobeats songs have the same sound.
Another connoisseur opined that the music genre is saturated. “Afrobeats is oversaturated right now, and everyone’s dropping, but few are connecting. Quality > virality. We need more timeless vibes, less TikTok bait,” he said.
