Twelve persons were said to have died along the Kirikiri waterfront. This happened during a standoff between the boatman and the passengers in respect to the boat fare.
It was gathered that the boat was transporting the passengers from Kirikiri to Badagry.
However, some of the passengers refused to pay one thousand five hundred for the trip, opting to pay one thousand two hundred. This angered the boatman, Bimbo Elebiju, and he stopped the boat along the Kirikiri waterfront. During the standstill, waves from a ship toppled the boat and caused the death of twelve passengers.
Five passengers were rescued but three are still missing. And Bimbo Elebiju has been in the custody of the police command headquarters in Ikeja.
