Divergent reactions over plan to redeploy primary school teachers in Ondo

The bold steps on the redeployment and posting of Primary Schools Teachers in Ondo state by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have generated reactions from stakeholders in Ondo state.

The regent of Igasi-Akoko, Princess Mojirade Ipinlaye lauded the policy, saying lack of teachers has affected the development of education in rural areas like her community and many others in the state.

According to her many, communities employed teachers to fill the vacant positions and had to be responsible for their salaries.

A retired Vice-Principal from Ise said the program is good but the government must be responsible for payment of allowances for posting to rural areas.

He emphasized that the security of Teachers is very important as five of their colleagues were abducted at Auga-Akoko and payment of reasonable ransom was paid before they regained freedom.

A parent from Ikun, Canon Foluso Ogunsuyi praised the leadership of the Primary Education Board for its bold step not minding those to be involved.

Ogunsuyi disclosed that schools in the rural areas have been marginalized and pupils have suffered from the refusal of teachers to stay in rural areas of Ondo state.

A female Retired Teacher, Mrs. Simbiat Sikiru from Ikare-Akoko said the policy may not have gender consideration as couples and families will be affected negatively.

She urged the board to do a just redistribution and posting of teachers in the state that will have human considerations
