The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate rehabilitation and upgrade of the Government Secondary School, Kabusa.

He gave the directive yesterday while inaugurating the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara at the school’s permanent site in Kabusa, Abuja.

He described the block of one-storey building school as unfit to deliver quality education to students.

He assured residents of the area that the school would be upgraded to offer quality education to the children.
He explained that the school would be rehabilitated and upgraded under emergency to a standard school that the FCT Administration (FCTA) would be proud of.

“Is this a school? I will not lie to you; I will not accept this as a school for our children to have quality education.

“I am directing immediate upgrading of the school for our children to get the best of education,” he said.

The Minister also warned against bringing school children to line up under the sun to welcome him.

“It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time we see this happen. Nobody should bring students out of school to line up on the road. We will not accept that any longer.

“We will not accept where our students are subjected to line up on the street to receive us. I want to appeal to the principals of all our schools not to allow that to happen. Our children deserve the best,” he said.

He directed his Chief of Staff, Mr Chidi Amadi, to work with the Director of Procurement, FCTA, to develop modalities for rehabilitating the school.

On the road project, Wike told the people that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda would unfold in the next seven days.

He said that with the renewed hope agenda, government activities are no longer concentrated in the city centre but also in the satellite towns and communities.

He assured me that he would return to commission the project in the next six to seven months.

“What we are doing today is what the renewed hope agenda is all about. The people of Kabusa and Takushara have lost hope that this road will ever be done, but to the glory of God and the coming in of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is a different story.

“Government is no longer being concentrated only in the city centre, government has come down to the grassroots, that’s the renewed hope agenda. So, let the people hear that when the government promises, it is obliged to fulfil it. One of the promises that Mr President made is that we will also turn the satellite town to the cities,” he said.
