Dokbi Community in Bauchi calls for help over flood disaster

The people of Dokbi community, in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi state,  have cried out for urgent intervention to the state government to rescue their people from the flooding that has ravaged their community.

The chairman Roads Maintenance Committee, Dokbi, Mr. Iliya Dokbi stated this during a road improvement work initiated by the community at the Dokbi River.

Mr. Iliya Dokbi said ‘Since the beginning of this year’s raining season our people have always risked moving from one Village to another and social lives had become terrible also ‘.

He revealed that the flood had swept away farmlands, crops and properties worth millions of Naira as well as destroyed the culvert at the main river called Lar Dokbi.

Mr. Dokbi appealed to the Bauchi state government and Bogoro LGA as well as relevant authorities to salvage their community from imminent loss of lives and properties.

Mr. Samaila Basha the community leader reacting to the devastating impact of the flood said the perennial flood in Dokbi is a source of concern.

The flood according to him had brought untold hardships to the residents, especially women who had found it difficult to access health care during childbirth.

When contacted the Sole Administrator of Bogoro LGA Alh Abba Isah Salihu said government was already aware of the situation in Dokbi and other areas affected by flood.

Alh Abba Isah enjoin communities ravaged by flood to report it to the Local Government Emergency Unit to enable the Local Government take action.

Alh. Abba Isah Salihu assured the people of Dokbi to remain calm promising them that the Bauchi state Government will intervene as it has started in Gambar Lere and Gambar Sabon Layi.

He said the local government had directed the Works Department to take stock of all communities affected by flood
