Don’t fall for fake news ECOWAS tells its election observers

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), on Thursday, warned its election observer team in Nigerian not to fall for fake news, in the cause of discharging their duties on election day.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, gave this warning while briefing the ECOWAS Electoral Observation Mission in Nigeria, at the ECOWAS Commission Secretariat, Asokoro, Abuja.

Dr. Touray, told the Observation Mission, which is led by former President of Sierra Leone, Mr. Ernest Bai Koroma not to be carried away by fake news and emotions, while carrying out their assignment.

The President of ECOWAS Commission said the election was not just about Nigeria, but the entire continent.

The Head of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission and Former President of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma told the observers that the task ahead was a huge one, considering the size and strategic importance of Nigeria in the continent.

He appreciated the ECOWAS leadership for finding him and his team worthy for the assignment, and gave the assurance that the mission would deliver on its mandate.

ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs Peace and Security, Abdel-Fatau Musah said over 250 observers have been deployed for the polls.
