Immediate-past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has urged the current governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to ignore detractors and focus on delivering his promises to the people of the state.
Wike made the call during the flag-off of the construction of the 50.15km Portharcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road.

He also commended governor Fubara for starting his tenure with a huge development project worth 195.3 billion naira.
Speaking at the flag-off, Wike said “Don’t bother about those you have conquered. When you have conquered a people, you have conquered a people. So don’t bother, people you have conquered—what do you expect them to do?

“Do what you’re doing; we’re here monitoring them, and we will choke them. Don’t lose any sleep. We have no work now; we are pensioners, so all we do is tell anybody looking for our trouble that we will appear and tell them that, look, we’re already the troublesome people, and we’re waiting.
“So, Mr. Governor, God will continue to bless you. I’m proud that we want to flag off this project, and as I’m flagging off this project, my belle dey sweet me.”

Speaking further, Wike advised Fubara not to abandon Rivers State to live in Abuja like some governors do.

“Mr. Governor, Let me also advise you. The people who elected you are in the state. They’re not in Abuja, so stay in your state and face the challenges of your people. Don’t allow them to lure you into believing that there is one meeting or another. Nothing comes out of those meetings. Stay in your state and develop it.
“They won’t give you anything there. Two, our money is not to develop any political party. Our money is used to develop our state. They’ll be luring you because they think with Rivers, money will come and one party or the other will grow. Our money is for the development of Rivers State. Stay here and work; you’ll feel happy, and at the end of the day, Rivers people will appreciate you,” the former governor said.
