Driver dies as bus hits trailer in Anambra

A commercial bus driver has lost his life in a fatal accident at Okeohia by the Ihialla-Owerri expressway in Anambra State.

The accident which happened Sunday evening, involved a commercial bus and articulated truck.

An eye witness said the bus driver who was conveying illegal crude oil (bunkers) was on top speed when he suddenly rammed into a stationary trailer.

“The trailer driver on seeing what had happened immediately entered his vehicle and drove off before we could capture the vehicle details,” he said.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Adeoye Irelewuyi said one person died in the crash and attributed it to excessive speed.

He sympathized with the deceased family, urging motorist to maintain a safe speed limit.

He said, “A fatal Road traffic crash happened at Okeohia by Ihialla-Owerri expressway on 7th November 2021 at about 15:06hrs.

“The crash was between two vehicles, a commercial bus with Regitration No: NKK-314-VT and articulated vehicle with no registration number.

“The probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to Excessive Speed which led to the loss of Control.

“Five persons were involved in the crash, comprising four male adults and one female adults.

“The corpse was taken to Our Lady’s Mortuary Ihialla after being confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
