DSS arrests two FCTA staff during promotion exam

Two staff members of the Federal Capital Territory Administration have been apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services during the ongoing 2026 FCTA promotion examination.

The incident occurred on Monday, the second day of the exercise, when DSS personnel deployed to provide security at the examination venue reportedly caught the two staff members engaging in suspicious activity.

The affected officers were seen making statements to DSS operatives when the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, and the Head of the FCT Civil Service arrived at the examination hall during a monitoring tour.

The two staff members were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

The development comes after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, directed the FCT Civil Service Commission to proceed with the 2026 promotion examination to ensure that eligible FCTA workers receive their promotions as and when due.

The minister also directed security agencies to provide adequate security for the exercise.

The promotion examination, which began on Monday, is scheduled to continue until October 13, with more than 5,000 education officers participating.

The education officers were allowed to participate after Wike lifted the suspension on their involvement in the exercise following their disruption of the 2025 promotion examination.

The circumstances surrounding the apprehension of the two staff members are expected to be established by the ongoing police investigation.
