DSS, FRSC office complexes in flames as gunmen again strike in Anambra

Unknown gunmen have again on Sunday set ablaze the offices of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the commercial and industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra State.

Several vehicles in addition to the offices were set on fire by the gunmen.

It was however not clear as at the time of this report if there were casualties when the hoodlums stormed the two offices.

One person identifies as a passerby was said to have been hit by a stray bullet during the attack.

Eyewitness account disclosed that the attackers in four sports utility vehicles had driven from Owerri road and stopped at Emecourt Road Junction where they released volleys of gunshots which forced residents and passersby to scamper for safety.

They had quickly headed to the two offices with sporadic shootings.

According to one of the witnesses who preferred to be anonymous, “They later drove through Nkwo Triangle Roundabout and moved towards Nnobi Road axis of the town.

He said, “Military armored vehicle later surfaced and drove around town, passing through Emecourt Road. But there was no exchange of fire as the military and the gunmen did not meet,” he added.

Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga when contacted on the incident confirmed that there was a fire incident in Nnewi, but could not give details of what led to it.

He said: “At about 2 pm, of 3rd Oct 2021, the command received a distress call of a fire incident in Nnewi. The Police Operative are currently on the ground and the area has since been cordoned off. Further details shall be communicated, to you” he said.
