The governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. David Nweze Umahi has said that he thinks that the levels of crime in Nigeria today is as a result of unpatriotic acts by many Nigerians.
The governor speaking on Thursday on Channels Tv lamented that many Nigerians are unpatriotic and that anybody who makes any unsubstantiated statement should be invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Police.
He said: ‘We leaders come on television and then we speak, indict other regions and castigate the leader of the country.
‘There is no patriotism at all and the way to prevent these things are if you are making unsubstantiated statement on social media you should be invited by the police, the DSS to explain and this is not politics because the country can not fold its hands and people plunge the country into another war this is very important.

He also advised on how to solve the lingering insecurity situation across the country, saying ‘my suggestion is that there should be a kind of leaders consensus arrangement whereby the religious leaders, maybe one from each state or two, traditional rulers and former head of states should go round the country and discuss.
‘Everyone that is a leader in this nation should be concerned every day we wake up to the reality of the time this should not be. We have to discuss I will not call it negotiation because if you are fighting for the people you don’t shave a man’s head in his absence. Let the people tell you how they want to be fought for.
He further said that every state should grant autonomy to the judiciary it is not a question of Executive Order but of respect for every arm of the government.
He said that there must mutual respect between the three arms of government and that whatever is due to the judiciary within the limit of what is available must be given to them.
‘My position is that every state should grant financial autonomy to the judiciary. It is a question of respect.’ he said.
