The flyover at Rumuokoro along the East-West Road in Port Harcourt will be inaugurated and opened to traffic on Monday.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, said the flyover will be inaugurated by a former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke.
The inauguration of the bridge will bring to an end three months of restriction of movement placed around the bridge by Rivers State Government to stop street trading and other activities in the area the government said were hampered work on the flyover.
Traders whose shops were closed during the period had continuous lamented the difficulties they had to face while the curfew and restriction of movement lasted.
Some of them said their goods had expired while the shops were locked, while other said their rents expired during the period without them having money to renew the rents.
The opening of the bridge will also allow motorists and commuters, especially along the trans-state route to move freely on the road, thus bringing to an end almost two years of waiting since the construction of the flyover started. It will also ease movement for commuters that had to trek several kilometres to cross to either ends of the project sites to join connecting buses and taxis to tehri destinations.
Also due for inauguration the following day is the Artillery Flyover at Rumuogba, which will be performed by former Kano State Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso.
On Wednesday, March 3, the turn of GRA Phase 2 Roads (Tombia Crescent, Opobo Crescent and Isaiah Odolu Street) that will be commissioned by the former Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema.
Then on Thursday, March 4, former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, will commission the new Government House Clinic/Press centre.
Mr. Nsirim said the contract for two new flyovers at Ikwerre Road/Olu-Obasanjo (Ikokwu) and Aba Road/Rumukalagbor (Waterlines) Junctions will be signed with Julius Berger on Thursday, while the Ikwerre Road/Olu Obasanjo (Ikokwu) Flyover will be flagged off by Chief Dan Orbih, the South-South Zonal Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Activities for the week will be rounded off on Saturday, March 6 with the flag-off of the Aba Road/Rumukalagbor (Waterlines) Flyover,” he said.
