Four men – Sani Chiroma, Isyaku Musa, Abubakar Dahiru, and Auwalu Musa – on Friday appeared before a Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kano, for alleged extortion of N500,000.
The defendants, whose ages were not provided by the court, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and extortion.
The prosecutor, Mr. Umar Sa’id, told the court that they committed the offenses on June 16, 2021, at Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa.
He said that the defendants conspired with one Malam Adamu still at large and deceived one Alhaji Hudu Abubakar who they introduced to buying and selling of American dollars.
“The defendants, in the process, took the complainant to a forest at Birnin Kudu and extorted his N500, 000.
“The defendants converted the money to their own personal use,” the prosecutor said.
Sa’id said that the offenses contravened Sections 97 and 291 of the Penal Code.
Senior Magistrate Alkasim Nasib-Danfillo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties each.
