President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared that Nigeria will no longer resort to borrowing to fund government operations, announcing that his administration had surpassed its annual revenue mobilisation target by August 2025.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa while receiving a high-powered delegation of leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the President said prudent fiscal management and robust non-oil earnings have put the nation on a stable economic footing.
“We have met our targets of revenue for the whole year, and we met it in August. Non-oil revenue is doing well, and I have no fear. Nigeria is not borrowing again. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for the exchange rate anymore. The naira is stabilising.
“What we need now is to build the infrastructure for export and import, to create jobs and opportunities for our people. That is my guarantee,” Tinubu told the cheering CPC delegation.
*Reaffirms commitment to economic stability, food security, justice
The President outlined fresh measures to tackle food insecurity, including the establishment of mechanised farm centres in every region to scale up productivity and achieve food sovereignty.
“Our path to food security is clear. Every region will have a mechanised farm centre. We are committed to removing poverty from our land, and that is the work we have already started,” Tinubu said.
He also reassured that his administration’s legacy would be anchored on justice, transparency, and economic stability.
“Don’t let anybody threaten you with uncertainty. We know the direction we are going, and we are certain of success. The legacy you will inherit from me is total commitment to justice, transparency and progress. At the end of this journey, it will be a house of joy and prosperity for all,” he added.
*CPC bloc declares support
Earlier, the CPC delegation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, pledged total loyalty to President Tinubu and promised to mobilise nationwide support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Al-Makura commended the President for steering the country through tough times and for sustaining the legacy of their late leader, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We are with you in loyalty, in person, and in purpose. Mr. President, you and President Muhammadu Buhari shared more than a political alliance; you shared a vision of a Nigeria built on justice, economic sovereignty, and good governance. Together, you conceptualised and built a platform that remains our pride and our cause,” Al-Makura said.
*Speaker Abbas speaks for CPC family
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, described the visit as historic, insisting that over 90 per cent of CPC’s pioneer leaders remain loyal to Tinubu and the APC.
“Indeed, today is the very first time that former members of the CPC have gathered in such large numbers to visit our President, to show support and appreciation for what he has been doing. CPC in every state will go back home and mobilise support for Asiwaju.
“That movement will cascade down to local government areas, wards, and units. Insha Allah, CPC members will be at the forefront of ensuring your re-election in 2027 so you can continue the good work you are doing,” the Speaker said.
The CPC delegation included Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu, former Minister of Communications; Architect Waziri Bulama, former APC National Secretary; Prof Haruna Hima, former House of Representatives member; Garba Datti Mohammed, former Deputy Minority Whip; Ibrahim Baba.
Others included the CPC governorship candidate, Mary Efere, the RMAFC commissioner, Farouk Adamu Aliyu, the CPC governorship candidate, and several other prominent CPC stalwarts, women leaders, and former national officers.
