Gombe imposes 24-hour curfew on Billiri LGA

Gombe state government has imposed a 24- hour curfew on Billiri local government area with immediate effect.
Government decision, according to a press statement issued by Secretary to the Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, followed eruption of violence in the area which has degenerated into threat to lives and property
The statement read : ”Gombe state government has imposed a 24 hours curfew within Billiri local government area with immediate effect from today, 19th February, 2021”

According to the statement, ”The government affirmed the need for peaceful co-existence among the citizenry and commitment to the protection of lives and property”
”Consequently, the government has suspended all forms of gathering in Billiri Local Government Area”
”All security agencies are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with this directive
In addition ”All citizens are expected to comply with the directive except those personnel providing essential services” the statement added
Recall that the new security threat in the area, may not be unconnected with the tussle for the next Mai of the Tangale Chiefdom in Billiri local government area of the state, which the state government has been making far reaching consultation on the appointment among the three contestants.
