Edo: Jagun emerges Head of Eshinogu Royal Family in Igarra

By David Lawani
The Otaru of Igarra and paramount traditional ruler of Igarra and Akuku Clan, HRH Oba E. A. Saiki, has congratulated Okomayin Jossy Jagun on his elevation as Head of the Eshinogu Royal Family of Ugbogbo, describing him as a community builder with unimpeachable repute.
Oba Saiki said Jagun’s emergence followed established tradition based on seniority and lineage within the Eshinogu Royal Family, one of the five recognised royal families in Igarra. He noted that Jagun’s record of public service and contributions to community development earned him respect among stakeholders.
“He has remained a bulwark upon which the Igarra community rests its shoulders, demonstrating integrity and commitment to communal growth,” the monarch said.
Jagun, a retired Deputy Director with the National Council for Arts and Culture, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the family, describing the development as a fulfilment of long-standing tradition and responsibility to sustain cultural heritage.
“You cannot be a human being without knowing your root; culture defines identity and must be modernised, not discarded,” Jagun said.
Family members also commended the elevation, noting that the position carries responsibility for preserving tradition and promoting unity within the lineage. Okomayin Kole Jagun, Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Association, said the development represents both honour and duty to contribute to the progress of the family and the wider community.
“Reaching this stage is not a mean feat; it is a call to serve the family and community with wisdom,” he said.
Members of the Eshinogu Royal Family said the lineage has historically played key roles in cultural rites, agriculture and inter-community relations across Ugbogbo, Utua and Ufa quarters of Igarra.
Jagun’s elevation has attracted commendations from family members, particularly within the Ezi Ogbodo Royal Family, as they pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at preserving cultural identity while promoting development in the community.
