A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise only candidates from the Chief Dan Orbih-led Legacy group of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
Delivering the judgement on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo said that all evidence showed that the primaries held by Orbih’s faction were duly monitored by INEC as organised by the Edo PDP as required by the new Electoral Act.
Ekwo struck out the preliminary objections raised by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s faction of the PDP for lack of merit, adding that no evidence showed that the primaries held by Obaseki’s faction were duly monitored by the electoral body.
Edo PDP alleges plot to subvert Appeal Court judgment
The judge then held that INEC must only recognize the candidates produced from the primaries of PDP which they monitored.
ThisNigeria had reported that the Edo PDP had raised an alarm over plans to subvert an Appeal Court judgement in favour of Governor Obaseki’s candidates in the state.
