Players of Edo Queens FC on Monday, in Benin, commended the government for the development of women’s football in the State, especially the government’s response to the team’s welfare.
The players, through their Captain, Goodness Onyebuchi, gave commendation while speaking on the team’s recently concluded training tour ahead of the new NWFL season.
The Super Falcons invitee also commended the Gov. Godwin Obaseki-led government on the player’s welfare, especially the exemplary role of the state’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu to the team’s success describing as ”inspirational”.
“We, players of Edo Queens FC are happy with the response of the State government towards our welfare.
“In Nigeria, it is very rare to find a state, especially the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, who is totally committed to empowering young girls and boys, who are gifted in sports.
“Before I came to Edo Queens as a player, I use to read about the government’s active involvement in Edo Queens, honestly I didn’t take those reports seriously because I felt it the normal praise-singing given to politicians by the media.
“It is a big privilege for me to play in Edo Queens, I’m praying to God to help us fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the club and government.
“Our purpose of coming here is to rewrite the wrongs. This is a new Edo Queens, we are battle-ready.
“Since my career as a player, I have never seen a Deputy Governor giving this kind of support to a women’s team.
“The support we are getting from him is marvelous and tremendous, we have vowed within ourselves to make him happy and the only way to do this is for us to work very hard to win laurels for him in this coming NWFL season.
”I pray that God will continue to give him the strength to continue with the good job he is doing for Women Football in Nigeria.

“We have just concluded a pre-season training tour in preparation for the 2021/ 2022 NWFL season. Not all NWFL premiership clubs have such opportunity to go on a pre-season training tour,” she stated.
She also extolled the head of the technical team Mathew Wemimo for her technical input into the team.
“We are also very happy to be under coach Mathew Wemimo, she is a mother, a manager, a sister, and everything to us. We enjoy her system of coaching, all her coaching programmes are of International standard.
“I know with God on our side we will put smiles on the faces of our teeming fans in the State, as well as the government and management of the team,” she said.
