The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a man, Captain Nuhu Haruna, who posed as an airline captain and defrauded his victim of N1,020,000.000 in a foreign exchange deal.
The suspect, according to a statement on the agency’s handle, was apprehended by the operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC following a petition from the victim.
According to the petition, the victim met Haruna in December 2023 through a mutual acquaintance who introduced him as a pilot and a forex dealer. The victim agreed to exchange his N1,020,000.00 for its dollar equivalent and transferred the money to Haruna’s account.
However, Haruna never delivered the dollars and instead sent fake payment proofs to the victim, who later discovered that he had been duped.
“EFCC launched an investigation and found out that Haruna was not a pilot but a fraudster who used the money to buy properties and vehicles for his purported airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services,” the statement read.
