The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered N1.233 trillion and secured 10,872 convictions for financial crimes between October 2023 and July 2026, the anti-graft agency has disclosed.

The commission released the figures on Thursday in a video posted on its official X account, detailing its activities during the 34 months under the chairmanship of Ola Olukoyede.

The EFCC said it received 49,673 petitions from members of the public and other sources within the period.

Of the petitions received, 39,615 cases were investigated, while 14,476 cases were eventually filed before various courts.

The resulting prosecutions produced 10,872 convictions, according to the commission.

The EFCC said the cases involved different categories of economic and financial crimes, including advance fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud and offences linked to economic governance.

It explained that petitions remained a major entry point for its investigative process, with investigations aimed at tracing financial transactions, establishing criminal liability and recovering proceeds of crime.

The commission said the N1.233 trillion recovered during the period represented funds traced and recovered in the course of its efforts to protect public resources and combat financial crimes.

It also linked the convictions to the work of its investigators and prosecutors in pursuing cases through the criminal justice system.

The agency said the figures demonstrated the scale of its activities under the current leadership, particularly in investigation, prosecution and asset recovery.

The EFCC maintained that its campaign against economic and financial crimes remained ongoing, stressing that it would continue to pursue cases involving the abuse of public and private funds.

It said the combination of petitions, investigations, prosecutions, convictions and recoveries remained central to its mandate of strengthening accountability and protecting Nigeria’s financial system.
