Fun seekers in Ibadan metropolis, on Thursday, thronged recreational centers to celebrate Eid el-Fitr, amidst increasing insecurity and threat of COVID-19 pandemic
Many people, particularly the Muslim faithful, also visited places like Shoprite, cinema houses, and children’s playing ground to eat, drink, play games, and watching movies.
Mrs. Nike Adams, a mother of three, said that that she went the extra mile to celebrate with her children in spite of the fear of insecurity, COVID-19 pandemic, and lack of enough money.
“It has not been easy for somebody like me due to the situation of things in the country, but we just have to celebrate the Eid-el Fitr.
“We thank God who has kept us till this moment and given us the grace to witness another Eid-el Fitr, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and the general insecurity,” Adams said.
Mr. Bamidele Oladosu, a civil servant, said he decided to come out with the family to celebrate Eid el-Fitr because God has counted them worthy to be alive to see the end of this year’s Ramadan.
Bamidele said that in order to ease the movement of people during festive seasons like Ramadan, the Oyo State government should be thinking of providing a subsidized transport system.
“Most people didn’t come out this year the way they used to, probably because of COVID-19 pandemic and the general hardship in the country,” he said.
Easter: ‘I wish there can be more public holidays’
Also speaking, a youth, Mr. Lukeman Bankole, said that he managed to celebrate the season with his friends because it was worth it.
“In spite of the situation of things in Nigeria and the entire world, we still have cause to celebrate and thank God for another Eid-el Fitr.
“I wish all Muslim faithful happy Eid-el Fitri celebrations. May God gives us the grace to witness and celebrate more of it in good health and sound mind,” he added.
