Ekiti State witnessed a major political convergence on Monday as prominent figures across party lines endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for second term in 2027 and 2026 respectively.

The endorsement, which took place at the Ekitiparapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, attracted a record-breaking crowd and signaled a growing unity within the state’s political landscape.

Governor Oyebanji and his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, were jointly endorsed by the APC-led political class, with support also coming from opposition heavyweights like former Governor Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni, and Senator Biodun Olujimi, who announced her defection from the PDP alongside other notable figures.

Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, led the motion to endorse Tinubu, which was seconded by Rep. Femi Bamisile. Oyebanji’s endorsement was moved by Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye and seconded by Deputy Speaker Bolaji Olagbaju, drawing a resounding approval from the massive crowd.

In his address, an elated Oyebanji said the endorsement was a powerful motivation to continue delivering good governance, but emphasized that the APC remains open to all interested aspirants.

“The endorsement doesn’t stop anyone from contesting. The constitution allows it, but today’s support means we must not fail Ekiti,” he said, assuring loyalty to President Tinubu and promising intensified development projects.

Oyebanji hailed Tinubu as a transformational leader and cited ongoing federal and state infrastructural works as evidence of APC’s commitment to governance.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa declared that all 23 APC governors support Tinubu and extended the same backing to Oyebanji, urging Ekiti people to ensure he wins all 177 wards.

Former Governor Fayose described Oyebanji as humble and performance-driven, pledging to hand over his political record of sweeping all LGAs to him.

Niyi Adebayo and Segun Oni described Tinubu and Oyebanji as “good products,” urging continued support to build on their achievements.

Senator Bamidele said Tinubu and Oyebanji have taken tough but necessary decisions, stressing the need for continuity to safeguard the nation’s future.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, praised the political unity in Ekiti, adding that the endorsement validates the confidence Nigerians have in Tinubu’s administration. He assured that the party’s primaries would remain open, free, and fair for all aspirants.

Senator Olujimi, speaking for the defectors, said the APC represents Nigeria’s best chance at greatness and affirmed Tinubu and Oyebanji’s re-election is non-negotiable.

The event drew massive attendance from across Ekiti’s 16 LGAs, with various groups donning party-branded outfits and paraphernalia. Other dignitaries included Senator Dayo Adeyeye, former Deputy Governor Biodun Aluko, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, and members of the National Assembly from the state.
