The Ekiti State chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Comrade Joseph Rotimi at weekend advised the former governor of the state, Engr. Segun Oni and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) not to waste their time and money in contesting the forthcoming Governorship election in the state.
Comrade Rotimi, who spoke with ThisNigeria in Abuja, said although politics is a game of numbers, the PDP and the APC are both in Ekiti State stressing that the APC is more popular in the state than the PDP.
Governor Kayode Fayemi, he said, has done a lot of good things that the people of the state will not ignore pointing out that, “when he entered office in 2018, he increased pension money from 10 million to 100 million, he sourced for funds to pay salary, he is currently paying the debt of the ex-governor. Hopefully, we are going into the primary, and it will be done transparently.”
“Segun Oni was formerly with us in the APC but he thought that the governor will come from Ekiti north which is not possible for the APC to pick another northern senatorial district candidate again, so he went back to the PDP.
“He was the deputy chairman of the APC South, which controlled 17 states, but he abandoned it and went to the PDP. As far as I am concerned, there is no chance for the PDP in Ekiti State,” he said.
New national carrier: Worried Nigerians express diverse opinions
The RTEAN boss said: “ Well, some people might be demanding for him to return, but in 2018 most people said Segun was the most popular candidate in Ekiti State but during the election, our governor had more votes than Segun.
“Politics is a game of numbers, so let’s wait and see, but I know the APC is going to win in Ekiti because we, the drivers both national and road, have been carried along by the governor.
“He doesn’t bill us, he doesn’t take unnecessary decisions, he allows us to operate and make our decisions, unlike the former governor. We have no choice but to support the governor because he has done everything for us, and we are more in Ekiti State.”
