Ekwueme football tournament: Rangers FC thrash Active All Stars 2-0

Rangers International FC of Enugu on Thursday defeated Active All Stars FC of Enugu 2-0 in the ongoing Ifeanyi Ekwueme Teco/Select Football Tournament.

The encounter, being the third in Group A, was played at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus’ pitch.

Chidiebere Nwobodo opened the score for Rangers FC in the 32nd minute, while Daniel Vandaga made it 2-0 in the 71st minute.

The outcome of the match further brightened Rangers chances for the semifinal qualification,
with seven points from three matches.

Speaking after the match, Rangers FC Coach, Abdul Maikaba, said his team “dug deep” to win the match against a highly experienced side.

“As I said after the last game against Cynosure FC of Abakaliki that our target is to win our next match, we have done it in a good way.

“But we had some difficulty at the beginning before the players rose to the occasion to break our opponent’s resolute defense.

“I am happy to have won the match at the end,” Maikaba said.

According to him, our opponent has experienced players to give any team a run for their money.

“If you watch our opponent play, you will see that there are experienced players, who are Nigeria Professional Football League material among them.

“I think they are good players and I believe we will keep growing from game to game,” the coach said.

He said he was confident that his team would win their last group A match against Ingas FC of Enugu.

“We want to top the group and play the runner-up of group B, who are playing at the Dan Anyim Stadium Owerri.
