Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has highlighted the role of political parties in undermining the outcomes of elections in the country.
In a recent tweet, Sani said the actions of politicians in undermining their internal democracy affect subsequent outcomes of elections, especially as cases are now7 determined by the courts.
According to him, fraudulent practices employed by political parties often lead to the reversal of election victories in courts.
“Political parties and politicians contribute greatly in undermining internal party democracy that most times affects the outcomes of elections leading to the ultimate reversal of victories in courts.
“Some of these fraudulent activities include; General Violations of the party constitution, appointment instead of election of party Executives, allocation of party delegates to preferred candidates, changing party delegates at the last hour, organising dubious congresses or multiple congresses, corruption of party delegates, monetisation of primaries, factionalism and Godfatherly imposition of candidates.
“Political parties must learn lessons from what is happening in the country now that pre-election issues are exploited to nullify election victories,” he said.
