The Sagamu Unit Command, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Taofiq Iyanda, gave this figure during the flag of the Command’s 2021 Ember Months Campaign at Kara Motor Park, Sagamu, Ogun.
The campaign has its theme: “Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels And Enjoy Quality Road Experience.”
Iyanda explained further that 289 persons sustained various degrees of injuries while 392 were also rescued from the 122 crashes recorded during the period.
The unit Commander attributed most of the crashes that occurred at night to overspeeding and infractions of other traffic regulations.
“Therefore, the enforcement of traffic regulations and robust public enlightment against traffic infractions is necessary to stem cases of accidents during, before, and after the ember months,” he said.
Iyanda stressed the need for the intensive campaign as there will be increased vehicular and human movements during the ember months.
