EndSARS: NLC Commends Abiodun, Tasks Traditional, Religious Leaders

Saheed Adeola, Abeokuta

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ogun State chapter has commended the state governor, Dapo Abiodun for his proactiveness and sense of commitment in engaging the “EndSARS movement in the state.

Chairman of the Union, Emmanuel Bankole made this known in a statement in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Bankole, who lamented that the peaceful protests later turned bloody, wondered why the military had to use live bullet at peaceful protesters.

“We condemn in strong term the use of live bullets at Lekki Tollgate and anywhere in the country to suppress, harm and murder peaceful protesters under any guise. This as this is nothing but crime against humanity and also a gross contravention of Section 40 of Nigeria Constitution.

“This cold bloodshed murder of our young ones and use of brute force on unarmed protesters is a flagrant violation of every known convention and term of engagement in management of civil protests.”

“While we commend the civility and sense of patriotism displayed by our young people in the State in the course of the protests, we condemn the infiltration of criminal elements into the patriotic struggle.”

“Acts of arson on public and private properties and looting is condemned and unacceptable.”

The Union therefore call on youths to sheath their swords and allow government at all levels to address all their demands.

“We also call on our royal fathers, religious leaders, parents and guardians to assist in calming our youth. Enough of bloodletting and carnage.”

“We sincerely hope that the  findings and recommendations of the panel will help to forestall brutality of citizenry of the state in the hands of security agents and ensure that adequate compensation is paid to victims and relatives of victims of extra-judicial killings.”

“We call on the entire residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies and the government to ensure that normalcy is restored, and people can go about their lawful duties without molestation or hindrance of any kind’ he said.
