EndSARS: Senate Summons IGP, DG of DSS As Individuals, Gov’t Count Losses

The senate on Wednesday summoned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, and his Department of State Security (DSS) counterpart, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, following raging violence trailing EndSARS protests in parts of the country
Speaking to reporters shortly after the senate leaders’ meeting with the heads of security agencies, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, noted that the violence was a different dimension from the protest conceived by those demanding disbandment of the rested Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS
He made a passionate appeal to Nigerian political and religious leaders to prevail on all those involved in the raging demonstrations to enable peace reign in the country
Lawan said: “Those that are going about protesting have shown clearly that they have no affiliation, no relationship whatsoever with the original #End SARS protest. I will take this opportunity to urge all well-meaning Nigerians that this is our country, that everyone must show interest in its survival and in its peace.
In the same vein, the senate president reaffirmed that the law makers would not support any violent protest by anyone, saying “we believe that the EndSARS protest started very genuinely and those who started it are patriots who wanted to see change was initiated immediately
The senate, according to him, held that those demands were legitimate and would continue to insist that the federal government should implement the demands it accepted from the protesters
