Era of abandoning govt projects is over, Tinubu declares

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the era of abandoned government projects is over, pledging that his administration will ensure all ongoing projects are adequately funded, completed and maintained.

The President made the pledge on Tuesday while commissioning the Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the Renewed Hope Agenda is committed to ensuring that development reaches every Nigerian, including those in rural communities.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Tinubu said his administration would no longer tolerate abandoned projects.

“We will fund, we will finish, and we will maintain. From city expressways to rural access roads, every naira of public money must show up as value for the citizen,” he said.

The President said the newly completed road would improve access to markets, schools, hospitals and other opportunities for residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji.

He added that better rural roads would help farmers move produce more quickly, reduce post-harvest losses and stimulate economic activities in the communities.

Tinubu also commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration, led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, for its supervision, community engagement and quality control in executing the project.

He said the administration’s infrastructure drive is aimed at bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas.

Speaking at the event, Wike said the road contract was awarded less than a year ago and praised the contractor for delivering the project on schedule and to a high standard.

He described the project as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and expand development across the FCT’s satellite towns.
