Ex-Delta speaker Victor Ochei resigns from APC

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing an end to his decade-long membership of the party.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ochei said his decision followed “deep reflections and wide consultations,” adding that he would continue his political journey elsewhere.

The former lawmaker said he joined the APC in 2016 with “sincerity of purpose” and contributed significantly to the growth and expansion of the party across Delta State.

According to him, he worked alongside other party faithful to strengthen the APC’s structures, mobilise grassroots support, and increase the party’s visibility within the state.

Ochei said he was leaving the party proud of the progress achieved during his time in the APC, including efforts to encourage youth and women participation in politics and deepen democratic engagement.

He, however, noted that leadership must evolve to reflect inclusion, fairness, mutual respect, and the aspirations of the people, stressing that his decision to leave was driven by his political convictions and desire for broader growth.

“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment, or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress, and the political future I envision for our people,” he said.

The former Speaker expressed appreciation to party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders who stood by him throughout his stay in the APC.

He also urged his supporters and political associates to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals as he begins a new political phase.

Ochei did not disclose the political platform he intends to join after exiting the APC.
