The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume has debunked insinuations that some aggrieved senators were planning to impeach the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio
Ndume had stormed out of plenary penultimate week to protest the refusal of Akpabio, to address alleged procedural errors he raised in his point of order.
He referred to a motion on the need to reopen the Nigeria – Niger Border which was moved by Senator Summaila Kawu (NNPP Kano South) which Akpabio allowed to be debated without first having the official title of the motion read.
Relying on Order 51 of the Senate Standing Rules, Ndume urged the Senate President to correct any procedural error made or observed during plenary.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday Politics, Ndume said there was no love lost between him and Akpabio.
He said, “I don’t have any problem with Akpabio, my problem is maybe the way he handled the situation and what happened the last time was misunderstood or taken out of context.
“Don’t forget I came to Channels here to the campaign for Akpabio. You can’t build a House and destroy it. I think the main problem is that I am more experienced than him. When I tried to correct him then, like that incident, he overruled me. You cannot overrule your Chief Whip.
“I am supposed to be the one that will call him to order not him.
“Like the incident, Akpabio was expected to have invited me and say come oh, and we talk one on one but he took advantage of the gavel. Coincidentally it was 1.30pm, time for prayer, which is why went out and it was misconstrued to be a walkout.”
On the impeachment of Akpabio, the Borno South Senator said he was just hearing it as a rumour.
He added, “There is no likelihood of an impeachment against Akpabio, I can tell you that.”
