A retired school principal, who volunteered to deliver ransom to kidnappers in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been held captive.
The incident was confirmed by Senator Shehu Sani via X on Tuesday.
He wrote, “A retired School principal who volunteered to deliver ransom to kidnappers to secure the release of a victim has also been held by the kidnappers in Birnin Gwari Ig, Kaduna state. He’s been in captivity for 3 days now, the abductors made calls to his family for his ransom.”.
This incident highlights the increasing boldness and reach of kidnappers in the region.
Birnin Gwari has become synonymous with widespread kidnappings and banditry.
In September 2023, residents raised the alarm that bandits renewed their onslaught on the Kaduna- Birnin-Gwari highway where they kidnapped over 44 persons in the spate of nine days.
