Stakeholders have described 100 days in office of the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, as the best in the history of the 10-year-old institution.
The stakeholders, including the management, staff, and students, also lauded the reinstatement of the suspended Chairman of the institution’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Gabriel Omonijo.
Newsmen report that Omonijo, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Water Resources and Agronomy, was suspended on Feb. 14, 2018, without pay.
According to members of the university community, Fasina has justified the mandate given to him by taking critical steps that will not only develop the institution but improve the living condition of both staffers and students, in line with his promises.
Fasina assumed office as FUOYE’s fourth vice-chancellor on Feb. 11.
Senior Executive Officer (SEO), Academic Affairs, Mr. Akinbayo Asaolu, said that for the first time in the history of the institution, the VC introduced a shuttle bus scheme at a subsidized rate, for both staffers and students.
“In less than 100 days in office, he provided shuttle buses at subsidized rates, established a bakery and printing press to boost the university’s internally-generated revenue.
“A man with fear of God, he has made some people, who were hitherto regarded as nobody, somebody without anybody lobbying. Gone are the days when you have to beg for promotion,” Asaolu said.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee of Deans, FUOYE, and the Faculty of Management Sciences, the Chairman, Prof. Olajide Oladele, congratulated Fasina, describing him as a versatile and courageous administrator as well as a rare breed intellectual.
“Within this short period, he has clearly demonstrated that leadership is not only about age, but experience, encapsulated in strategically-defined vision, commitment to people’s welfare, and passion for achievements.
“His leadership acumen is further reflected in his tireless devotion to duty, pragmatic management of issues, deployment of intelligence to solve knotty problems as well as zero tolerance for oppression and mismanagement of resources,” Oladele said.
Chairman, Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), FUOYE chapter, Mr. Ayodele Ojumoola, also lauded the vice-chancellor for what he called his outstanding performance since his assumption of office.

“We are proud to associate with him for his love and passion for staffers and students. This is worthy of emulation, and this generation will not forget him for the path of honor he is towing.
“He has used his position to touch so many lives. Were it not for his appointment, the university would have ended up in a serious mess,” he said.
One of the students, Miss Kudirat Ganiyu, said, “The vice-chancellor’s tenure has been eventful, happiness-driven and encouraging. He has shown himself as an administrator per excellence.
She, however, stressed the need for the cooperation of both staffers and students for Fasina to achieve his mission and vision for the institution, particularly in the areas of teaching, learning and research.
