The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission has dismissed 16 employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) over various acts of misconduct, including abscondment from duty and travelling abroad without official approval.
The Chairman of the Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this after the Commission considered reports submitted by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committees of various Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs), saying the affected workers were found to have breached the conditions of service governing their employment.
According to Ezeh, the decision followed due consideration of the disciplinary reports presented to the Commission, which approved the dismissal of the officers across different cadres of the FCTA workforce.
He said the affected employees had been directed to hand over all government property in their possession to their respective Permanent Secretaries, while the Permanent Secretary, Treasury, had been instructed to immediately delete their names from the FCTA payroll.
The Commission chairman described the exercise as part of an ongoing effort to sanitise the FCT civil service by eliminating ghost workers and enforcing discipline among public servants.
He stressed that the exercise would continue as the Commission remained committed to promoting efficiency, accountability and compliance with the Public Service Rules.
Ezeh, however, assured workers that the Commission was equally committed to rewarding diligence and professionalism.
He said the directive of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to conclude the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises would be fully implemented to ensure that qualified officers receive their promotions without delay.
He added that transparency and fairness would continue to guide the Commission’s activities, urging civil servants to remain committed to their responsibilities and support ongoing reforms aimed at improving service delivery and advancing the transformation agenda in the nation’s capital.
