FCT Police react to clash between Shiites, security operatives

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said that members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiites, came to cause unrest in the nation’s capital.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh told ThisNigeria on Tuesday.

ThisNigeria reported that at least two persons were killed during a clash between the Shiites and security operatives in Abuja.

The IMN members were reported to have been rounding off the Arbaeen Symbolic Trek when security operatives opened fire on them.

Reacting to the clash, Adeh said the Shiites movement came into Abuja with the intention to cause unrest.

“We got a security report before now that the Shiites mobilized people from about six states into FCT with the intention of making the city ungovernable.

“They engaged our men with dangerous weapons. They were throwing explosives and stones at our men. What we simply did was disperse them with tear gas. There was no casualty,” she said.
