FCT residents hail Wike’s appointment as Minister, set agenda

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed optimism with the appointment of former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu.

ThisNigeria reported that the presidency had released a list of 45 ministers and their portfolios on Wednesday evening.

Ahead of the swearing-in of the Ministers, a land racketeer, Malam Suleiman Abubakar Agbo told ThisNigeria he believes that Wike would sanitise land dealings in Abuja.

“FCT needs a strong character like Wike to sanitise the land sector,” he stated.

Another resident, Abdul Mohammed expressed excitement with Wike’s appointment, saying the former governor’s good works in Port Harcourt were evidence that he would perform excellently in the FCT.

Jonah Yepwi, a native of Abuja, stated that Wike’s appointment signified incoming development as his legacy in Rivers State speaks volumes.

He, however, called on Wike to expedite the relocation of the natives in the nation’s capital, adding that compensation should be paid to natives while the process takes place.

Sebastian Okoye,  a 10-year resident in Abuja, urged Wike to urgently look into of the sanitisation of the FCT.

“The FCT I came to was a clean, beautiful city, but unfortunately, in recent times, the it has become dirty. Touts have taken over. Covers for manholes on major roads have been removed, leaving residents susceptible to accidents,” he lamented.

A senior civil servant, who pleaded anonymity, said the greatest challenge in the FCT is hawking and begging on the streets, especially by minors.

He urged Wike to sanitise the streets of the FCT and prohibit begging by school-age children, when they ought to be in classrooms.
