The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has completed 221.6 kilometres of road projects in the last three years, including long-delayed projects inherited from successive administrations.
The completed projects comprise 34.6 kilometres inherited from previous administrations and another 187 kilometres awarded under the current administration, bringing the total completed road network to 221.6 kilometres.
The FCTA said yesterday that 96.325 kilometres of additional road projects were still under construction across the Federal Capital Territory.
Of the ongoing projects, 41 kilometres were inherited from previous administrations, while another 55.325 kilometres were awarded by the present administration.
The inherited projects, according to the FCTA, date back to the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
The figures highlight the administration’s focus on clearing longstanding infrastructure backlogs while simultaneously executing new road projects across Abuja and its satellite communities.
Since assuming office as Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike has made the completion of abandoned and inherited projects a major component of his infrastructure programme.
The strategy has seen contractors return to several stalled projects, alongside the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the city centre and satellite areas.
The FCTA’s figures show that inherited projects completed or still under construction account for 75.6 kilometres, while projects initiated under the current administration, whether completed or ongoing, total 242.325 kilometres.
Overall, the road portfolio covered by the latest breakdown stands at 317.925 kilometres, comprising 221.6 kilometres already completed and 96.325 kilometres still being executed.
The FCTA said the figures reflect the scale of ongoing efforts to address longstanding road infrastructure deficits while delivering new projects to improve connectivity across the nation’s capital.
