FCTA dismisses rumoured early school closure, suspends education mandate secretary

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has refuted reports claiming that all government schools in the Federal Capital Territory would shut down by November 28, 2025. The administration said no such directive was issued at any level.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, said the Minister has ordered the immediate suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, over the misleading report.

The Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been directed to take disciplinary action against the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service rules.

The FCTA described the viral report on early school closure as false, urging parents, students, and school administrators to ignore it. The administration stressed that the approved academic calendar remains in force.

The statement further assured FCT residents, particularly students, of adequate security. According to Olayinka, the Minister has ordered the reactivation of Operation Sweep and other security measures across the territory.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order in the school system and curbing the spread of misinformation.
