By Ben Adoga, Abuja

FCTA Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary has threatened that government will not give hoodlums breathing space in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja by hiding in the slums to perpetrate their dastardly acts.

Briefing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Gwary said in spite of public outcry in some quarters, “removal of illegal settlements and unplanned buildings is a continuous exercise.”

Gwary said although the citizens have all the rights, but that it must be within the law thus citing the case of Kukuaba rail facility that was vandalised by illegal settlers.

He said these illegal settlers were not profiled and can commit crime and diffuse into the community undetected, thereby making life difficult for peace loving members of the community. “Government will not allow that,” he emphasised.

He also noted that kidnapping has taken the back seat as the strategies employed were yielding results.

“Security issues like ‘one chance’ is being curtailed. And during the yuletide, we have put in place security strategies to protect the FCTA”, he assured.

Also to strengthen security in the FCT, the G7, these are the adjoining states around FCT like Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi and others have been working towards evolving the right strategies.

He, however, charged the governors of the states to show commitment, just like the state Commissioners of Police and other heads of security agencies.

On internal security in the workplace, the FCT Administration has finalised plans to enforce the ban on trading in FCTA offices next year.

He assured that FCTA has perfected plans to fully enforce the ban on hawking around the office premises.
