As the ongoing clean-up of Abuja Airport road enters day three, the FCT authorities have taken more seized motorbikes for crushing as deterrence for operators to vacate the prohibited zone.

This has been followed with a brazen determination of operators to continue in illegality.

Operators, popularly called ‘Okada boys’ on Tuesday resisted the order and fought back with dangerous weapons including, machetes, knives, daggers, and clubs.

They were, however, overpowered by the combined team of enforcers; the Police, NSCDC personnel, and other security agencies.

Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah said the team continued with its enforcement in spite of the attacks.

He noted that notwithstanding the resistance of the illegal Okada operators, the Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, and the new Director of DRTS, Dr. Abdulateef Bello have vowed to remain committed to cleaning the city and restoring environmental sanity in all parts of the territory.

” The operation was not without hitches, we have impounded more 39 motorcycles, but came under severe attack by some okada riders who came with cutlasses and other weapons.
Attah assured that in spite of the resistance by the operators, that there is a strong political will on the part that of the FCT Minister to rid the city of nuisances and that the Abuja Airport gate way must be kept safe and free to motorists.
