FCTA withdraws all park licences, orders fresh screening of operators

By Ben Adoga, Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revoked all existing park licences in Abuja, directing operators to reapply for reallocation under stricter compliance measures.

Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, disclosed this on Wednesday while explaining the demolition of Boulevard Park in Maitama.

He said the decision followed a memo jointly submitted by the Directors of Parks and Recreation and Lands, which highlighted widespread violations of allocation terms.

“All park allocations have been withdrawn following a series of violations. Owners should resubmit their documents, and if they meet the terms and conditions, they will be reallocated. This is not witch-hunting, but a measure to restore order,” Galadima stated.

He emphasised that the city’s development is guided by law, warning that lawlessness would not be tolerated.

A ministerial committee has been established to review all allocations to restore the parks to their original recreational purpose.

Galadima also addressed security concerns at the notorious Durumi black spot, where criminals operate under the guise of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He revealed that the FCTA, in collaboration with the Refugee Commission, FCT Emergency Management Agency, Police, and other stakeholders, is working on a plan to demolish the area and restore safety.

“Definitely, we are going to clear that place. All those criminal elements hiding under the name of IDP will be profiled, and the area secured. Residents deserve to move freely without fear,” he assured.

The Director added that affected plot owners would be asked to develop their properties. At the same time, temporary road corridors would be maintained to ensure the area does not become a haven for hoodlums again.
