FG commiserates with Buhari’s family, Katsina Govt

The Federal Government has commiserated with the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the government and people of Katsina State over his demise.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, in Abuja on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari passed away in a London hospital on Sunday after a prolong illness.

The minister described Buhari as a distinguished statesman, patriot, and a gentleman soldier who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication.

“His stewardship as Military Head of State from Jan. 1984 to Aug. 1985 and as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023 left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

“Buhari’s historic victory in the 2015 general election underscored his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

“Known for his integrity, discipline, and resolute anti-corruption stance, Buhari championed policies aimed at fostering national unity, social investment, improving infrastructure, and addressing security challenges.

“The Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late former President, particularly his wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and his children.

“We also commiserate with the Government and people of Katsina State, where President Buhari was born, and indeed, all Nigerians,” Idris said.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days, from July 13 to July 20 as a mark of respect for the departed leader.

He added that the President had directed Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila to accompany the remains of the former President back to Nigeria for burial.

“We call on all Nigerians to honour the memory of this great leader by reflecting on his values of discipline, integrity, and selfless service.

“May his soul rest in peace, and may Almighty Allah grant him Al-jannatul Firdaus,” Idris prayed. (NAN)
