The Executive Secretary, National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr Benjamin Abakpa, said the Federal Government was poised to curb the menace of examinations malpractices ravaging the standard of education in the country.
The executive secretary said this in a statement by Mrs. Fatima Bapare, Head of Press and Public Relations of the commission, in Abuja on Thursday.
The statement was issued after the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Plateau State, Elizabeth Wapmull, and her team paid a courtesy visit to the executive secretary.
Abakpa said that the government established the commission saddled with the responsibility of setting a minimum standard and ensuring that secondary education meets the needs of the country as well as global competitiveness.
According to him, the establishment of NSSEC is to prescribe the minimum standards of Senior Secondary Education and regulate activities of the school among which is to checkmate exam malpractice.
He commended the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, for his effort in repositioning the commission.
He said that the commission was also set to tackle the numerous challenges facing senior secondary education with the aim of preparing the individual for a useful living within the society and for higher education.

He called on stakeholders, especially those from the States to collaborate with the commission to enforce implementation of the Commission’s policy as they bring the challenges facing senior secondary education to the barest minimum.
Speaking earlier the Commissioner for Secondary Education in Plateau State, Elizabeth Wapmull, expressed sadness over the low quality of students in senior secondary education which has a ripple effect on tertiary education and the nation at large.
Wapmull appealed to the Executive Secretary and his Management team to ensure that this challenge among others was addressed as the commission strategies to uphold the glory of the Senior Secondary Education in the country.
