FG reintroduces bursary awards

As part of the Teachers Day celebration largesse, the Federal Government has reinstated bursary in Universities and Colleges of Education nationwide

The sum of N150,000 was approved for each University graduate while NCE students get  N100,000 per session, Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, announced yesterday  in an address to commemorate the 2021 World Teachers Day celebration in Abuja

He explained that the return of  Bursary into the education system was part of the resolutions of the National Implementation Committee constituted by the government, after the President made the pronouncement in repositioning  Nigeria’s education sector, particularly the teaching profession, at the 2020 World Teachers Day celebration.

Adamu said the Federal Ministry of education will collaborate with education ministries of the 36 states and the FCT Board of education to implement the new policy.

He said that both sides would lookout for the various  courses of study each state required, while “beneficiaries must attend public institutions only and sign a bond to serve their state for five years on graduation.”

“The fund would be sourced from UBEC, TETFund and managed by the Federal Scholarship Board.”

He also said that the federal ministry of Education “shall collaborate with agencies like NTI, TRCN, CPN, NUC, NCCE, UBEC, PTDF, TETFund, and non-governmental organizations to organize training in pedagogy and information and communication technology for academic and non-academic staff.”

According to him, “UBEC, TETFund and PTDF would assist in funding the annual training.”
