FG returns £4.2m Ibori loot to Delta State

The repatriated £4.2m looted by a former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori has been returned to the state.

Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja.

Idris had appeared House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilisation, where he was grilled for over an hour.

Speaking on the Ibori loot before the committee, the Accountant-General said that funds looted from a state treasury are always returned to the state.

He stated further that states can file a lawsuit to recover such funds from the FG.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami had said that the loot would be used to fund projects in the country.
