FG spent over N1bn on Kishi-Kaima road

Sen. Sadiq Suleiman-Umar, representing Kwara North, said the Federal Government had spent over N1 billion on the construction of Kishi-Kaima road.

The Senator, who is the Chairman Business and Rules Committee, disclosed this in an interview on Monday at Kaima, headquarters of Kaima local government area.

The lawmaker described the Kishi-Kaima road as a major challenge confronting the people of Kwara North senatorial district which construction has been in place many years ago.

The Senator lamented that in spite of the amount spent by the Federal Government on the road, the level of job so far executed was not commensurate with it.

‘This is the only access road that links Kaima to other parts of the country but the contractor handling it is performing below expectations.

“The present state government will liase with the Federal Government to remedy it”, the Senator added.

Suleiman-Umar said the road contract has been awarded to a new contractor and had been captured in the 2022 budget of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

He called on the Kwara state Government to put in place a palliative measures to make the road motorable pending the time the Federal Government would lay asphalt.

On youths unemployment, the Senator called on the Private sector to create more jobs as white collar jobs are no longer beneficial.

“Financial institutions should give out loans to Youths to enable them engage in productive ventures as a way of complementing government efforts”, he said.
