Fire erupts at Bono Energy terminal in Lagos

A fire outbreak on Friday engulfed the Bono Energy Terminal in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby petroleum facilities.
The incident occurred at the fuel terminal located along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, one of Lagos’ major industrial corridors housing several tank farms and energy installations.
The cause of the fire was yet to be determined as emergency responders battled to contain the situation.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, said firefighters had been deployed to the scene and were working to bring the fire under control.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently curbing a fire explosion at Bono Energy Terminal on Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, by Coconut, Olodi Apapa, Lagos. Update to follow,” Amodu said in a statement.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of damage caused by the fire.
Emergency officials were continuing efforts to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjoining facilities within the highly industrialised area.
The incident has renewed concerns over fire safety at petroleum storage facilities in Apapa, where a concentration of fuel depots, tank farms and other critical energy infrastructure increases the risk of large-scale emergencies.
Fire outbreaks at such facilities pose significant threats to lives, property and the environment, making rapid containment essential to avert secondary explosions and minimise disruption to fuel distribution activities.
Authorities said further details, including the cause of the fire and the outcome of ongoing firefighting operations, would be released as investigations and emergency response efforts continued.
