Fire razes Onitsha market, destroys goods worth millions of naira

Another fire incident destroyed goods worth several millions of naira at the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra State.
The early morning fire was said to have started at about 4:00 am in the market yesterday.
Findings revealed that the fire started at the popular Abada/Lace Line, where different types of clothing materials are sold.

It was further learned that the inferno first started with the White House building which housed offices, halls and shops before it spread to other shops within the area.
According to the eyewitness, the fire outbreak was discovered through the thick smoke that emitted out from the area, at which residents and shop owners quickly rushed for possible rescue.
A combined effort of sympathisers and shop owners saved the fire, though a heavy loss was recorded in the end.
Anambra State Fire Chief, Martin Agbili, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
